The Sogabe Laboratory team, SoftBank Corp. and Keio University have successfully conducted an experiment to demonstrate a network service fault diagnosis system using an IBM superconducting gate-model quantum computer with a 127-qubit processor, and Q-CTRL’s Fire Opal error suppression technology.
In this study, we used a data set owned by SoftBank for diagnosing network service failures and evaluated a network service fault diagnosis system that utilizes quantum kernel learning, one of the quantum machine learning algorithms.

According to the results of a comparative evaluation using the simulators and IBM quantum computer, the error suppression system of Q-CTRL significantly reduced quantum noise. The accuracy of fault cause estimation reached 82% at 30 qubits. This is the highest number of qubits achieved in quantum kernel learning on actual hardware to date.
We will further advance our research to expand the range of applications for quantum algorithms, improve quantum hardware performance, and connect between network architectures.
**This research outcome has been accepted as a paper for the Technical Session (QML) at the “IEEE International Conference on Quantum Computing and Engineering (QCE24)” to be held from September 15-20, 2024, where it is scheduled for presentation.
